Boston’s Wood Frame Suburbs Exhibition
Boston’s Wood Frame Suburbs focuses on wood frame multi-family housing and its impact on Boston’s urban evolution in the late nineteenth century. First, the exhibition identifies the significance of wood frame multi-family housing to Boston’s urban morphology and its democratizing influence on urban development. Second, it analyzes three Bostonian wood-frame multi-family architectural housing typologies: row houses, two-family houses, and three-family houses known as “triple-deckers.” Third, it analyzes the construction of wood frame multi-family housing in its material and constructional detail.
