Usonia Redux
Residential Renovation and Addition, Pleasantville, New York
This project is the renovation, addition, and reorganization of an existing home in the neighborhood cooperative Usonia, which was planned by Frank Lloyd Wright 30 miles north of New York City. The existing one-story house sits on a steeply sloping site creating a separation between the interior spaces and the landscape at the bottom of the slope. A strategic intervention reconnects house to the landscape by creating a double-height space at the lower level. This space becomes the dining room, the center of this family’s common activities.
